Terrence Connor stepped into the role of superintendent Monday morning, following his selection by the board of Sarasota County Schools on June 14.

"It's honoring and humbling," he said. "There's been excitement. There's been a lot of anticipation for this moment."

Over the past few weeks, he said, he has been educating himself on the workings of the school district.

"I've been preparing myself and familiarizing myself with as much as possible externally, looking at documents and data and devising my plan as I come into the transition, and looking forward to seeing how we can improve the school district together," he said.

Connor's contract lists an annual base salary of $255,000.

He replaces Brennan Asplen, who reached a resolution with the board to resign from the district in 2022.

Connor most recently served as deputy superintendent and chief academic officer of Hillsborough County Public Schools.

His experience prior to that time includes serving as chief academic officer and assistant superintendent for curriculum at School District of Clay County, after serving that district as chief of secondary education.
