John Pirman: 'Diving Into Nature'

The retrospective presents the works of Sarasota-based designer and illustrator John Pirman both inside Selby Gardens' Museum of Botany & the Arts and outside throughout the bayfront gardens. The show includes Pirman's signature Sarasota views as well as his earlier work from his days as a freelance illustrator in New York. Runs through Sept. 17.


Open House/Lecture on Sarasota School of Architecture

In connection with a free exhibit on the Sarasota School of Architecture in the City Hall lobby, a lecture will be held featuring Sarasota County Division of Historical Resources Manager Joshua Goodman, Architecture Sarasota President Morris Hylton III and Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources Director Renee Di Pilato. The exhibit is on display through June 2024.

Opening Night Reception for 'An Abstract View'

“The Jersey Tenors” and “The Surfer Boys” veteran Vaden Thurgood has created his own musical revue for FST. The show, which features a rotating cast with three men (including Thurgood for at least a month) and a woman, follows the life of Creedence Clearwater Revival founder John Fogerty through hit songs such as “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising.” Runs through Oct. 22.

Sarasota Bay Watch is looking for volunteers to collect information on the shellfish, animals and seagrass seen in Sarasota Bay. Participants will be given instructions prior to the event. The SBW is looking for people who have boats and are able-bodied swimmers. People without boats should get there early as there is limited boat space. Bring sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, mask, snorkel and fins. A weight belt is optional but recommended. Registration is required upon arrival. There will be a lunch after.

Meet in the Wendy G. Surkis and Peppi Elona Lobby for a 50-minute flowing session led by Rosemary Court Yoga. Afterward, participants will be free to meditate, draw and write. Please bring your own yoga mat. Water bottles will not be allowed in the gallery. There will be a storage station for them.

'Working Conditions: Exploring Labor through The Ringling’s Photography Collection'

The Ringling debuts an exhibit that explores myriad views of labor in photographs, from the celebration of industrial progress to the exploitation of society's most vulnerable. Among the photographers whose works are on display are Lewis Hine, Dmitiri Baltermants, Endia Beal, Walker Evans, Arthur Rothstein, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Margaret Bourke-White, Danny Lyon, Lewis Baltz, Sebastião Salgado and Bill Owens. Through March 3.
