‘The Graduate’

Directed by Elliott Raines, “The Graduate” is a stage adaptation of the classic 1960s novel and film. It explores the unlikely liaison between a recent college graduate who is adrift in life and a friend of his parents who knows exactly what she wants. Runs through Aug. 27.

A Day for World Peace

The public is invited to an open house and community day at Kadampa Meditation Center to meet teachers and the community, tour the facilities and participate in a free guided meditation session (kids and adult sessions available) along with a talk and dedication for world peace. The Braden River Library hosts a drop-in knitting class for adults. The class will meet in the new Maker Space in the library and those attending should bring their knitting projects. The program is suitable for knitters of all levels. Needles and yard are available for on-site use.


The Bolds Brothers

Brothers Jordan and Joel Bolds perform their mesmerizing blend of soul, gospel and jazz. Jordan Bolds is a 22-year-old saxophonist who discovered the sax in the fourth grade and has appeared at the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival. Joel Bolds, 20, is a professional drummer who also taught himself how to play piano. Special guest artists include Charlie “CJ” Melton and Marc Dortch. A second performance will be 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Farmers Market at Lakewood Ranch will run year-round every Sunday. Vendors will be offering seafood, eggs, meats, dairy products, pastas, bakery goods, jams and pickles among other items. Other features are children’s activities and live music.


Music in the Gardens

Violinist Elijah Luzginov provides a musical accompaniment for visitors while they explore or sit in the gardens maintained by the Sarasota Garden Club and enjoy wine, refreshments and hors d'oeuvres.

“The Jersey Tenors” and “The Surfer Boys” veteran Vaden Thurgood has created his own musical revue. The show follows the life of Creedence Clearwater Revival founder John Fogerty through hit songs such as “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising.” It features a rotating cast with three men (including Thurgood for at least a month) and a woman on stage. Runs through Oct. 15.

Sarasota Music Archive wraps its summer Jazz Happy Hour series with the Robbie Rose Retro Quartet. The quartet features Rose on piano, Patricia Dean on vocals, Sherrell McCants on bass and Ken Snow on percussion. Reservations are required.
