Garbage truck accident leaves one dead in Bradenton

The 24-year-old male driver of a garbage truck was seriously injured and his 47-year-old male passenger was killed 12:40 p.m. Tuesday as the truck rolled while making a left-hand turn on State Road 64 near Lena Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol report said the garbage truck was headed west on S.R. 64 approaching the Lena Road intersection when the one-vehicle crash occurred. After rolling to its side, the truck struck the concrete curb and a utility pole. The passenger, of Sarasota, died at the scene. Neither the driver, of Bradenton, or the passenger were wearing seat belts.

The Florida Highway Patrol released no further information.
