If Rebekah Boudrie and Monika Oberer were dogs, their tails would be wagging.
On March 2, the pair handed off checks totaling more than $12,000 to two East County nonprofits, The Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch and Another Day for Gray, which helps families affected by and raises funds and awareness for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Boudrie and Oberer were the race directors for the annual Doggies for Duchenne fundraising 5K held Feb. 11, at CrossFit Lakewood Ranch.
After tireless hours finding sponsors, designing T-shirts, recruiting volunteers and organizing the race itself, Boudrie and Oberer were thrilled they raised about $4,000 more than in 2016. This year, each nonprofit received $6,002.35.
“We’re honored to give that back to the Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch and Another Day for Gray,” Boudrie said. “We feel very humbled.”
All race proceeds benefit charity.
