Is East County receiving a new school or what?

Manatee County School Board members are trying to answer that question now that they have a completed Long Range Master Plan, which consultant DeJONG-RICHTER delivered Jan. 19. The plan details that East County needs at least one middle school and possibly a high school.

To build two new schools out east would cost the district more than $150 million. Board members will discuss tonight whether those projects are financially feasible and what are the next steps in the process.

As part of Phase II, the board will discuss timelines and which projects might receive the green light, at its workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. and meeting at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 9.
