Santa Claus is making his list and checking it twice.
And in order to perhaps give his list a third check, he visited St. Armands Circle on Dec. 2. Santa and Mrs. Claus stopped by the 38th Annual Holiday Night on St. Armands and spoke with the children present about their Christmas lists. Some wanted golf clubs, others wanted superhero figurines.
Before kids could meet Santa, he had to light the 55-foot tall Christmas tree in the Circle’s park. Executive Director of the St. Armands Association, Diana Corrigan said that it is the tallest tree on the Gulf Coast of Florida. The tree has more than 40,000 lights and 800 ornaments.
“After 17 years of lighting that tree, it’s still magic to me,” she said.
Corrigan said the evening reminds her of an old-fashioned Christmas celebration. Before Santa arrived, those present had a Christmas carol sing along. The Rev. Keith Copeland of St. Armands Key Lutheran Church led the group in a blessing and said that this evening is what Christmas is really about.
