How fast should drivers travel along East County roads?

The item, slated for discussion at the Manatee County Commission’s Sept. 22 meeting, has been postponed to its Oct. 6 meeting.

At a workshop May 6, commissioners heard a proposal to change the speed limit on sections of about 12 roads, half of which were in the East County.

Roads with potential changes included Lockwood Ridge and Lorraine Roads, as well as Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, Honore Avenue and University Parkway.

Transportation officials said the goal was to make speed limits along roadways more consistent — for example, the speed limit along Lockwood Ridge Road fluctuates — and more in keeping with existing driving patterns.
