Are you interested in showing your patriotism while spending an evening out with family and friends?

From 5 to 8 p.m. May 24, Lakewood Ranch Main Street is transforming into a sea of red, white and blue to celebrate military veterans and Memorial Day.

The Tribute to Heroes Memorial Day Parade begins at 6 p.m. near the Polo Grill and Bar, and ends near Ed's Tavern.

The parade features three marching bands, floats, Veterans of Foreign Wars members riding on motorcycles and other parade participants. The parade will end with a dove release.

But, the parade isn't all there is to see at the event this weekend.

The event will also feature a bicycle-decorating contest, with awards given for "cutest," "most patriotic," and "most original" categories. Live music, games and other festivities will line the shopping strip near Ed's Tavern after the parade, too.

Attendance is free, but donations are encouraged, for Manasota Operation Troop Support — a nonprofit organization that sends packages overseas to soldiers who hail from Manatee and Sarasota counties.
