To show appreciation to law enforcement and military men and women, Manatee County Animal Services is offering them a furry friend.

From Memorial Day, May 25, to Labor Day, Sept. 7, the department is offering pet adoption specials. The county's Pets for Vets special allows local veterans and active duty military personnel to adopt dogs by only paying the county's $15 license fee.

All adoption fees will be waived.

“This adoption special is a small way for us to give back to those who have served the United States,” said Bill Hutchison, director of Manatee County Animal Services. “For so many people, owning a pet is one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable. They’re great stress and anxiety relievers and they’re incredibly uplifting friends.”
