Sarasota police investigating suspicious death

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a suspicious death after finding a body at 1854 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

The body, identified only as an African-American woman in an SPD release, was found behind the Out Reach Ministry building at around 9:45 a.m. today.

The woman’s identity and cause of death are unknown at this time, but detectives are investigating and handling the case as a suspicious death. The SPD requested that people contact police if they witnessed anything suspicious in the area in the past 24 hours.
