There’s one week left to crack open those fresh stone crabs.
Florida stone crab season closes one week from today, on May 16.
Local crabbers and restaurateurs have reported one of the slowest stone-crab seasons in recent memory due to a number of factors, including warm water temperatures and a surging population of the octopus, a natural stone crab predator.
Stone crab season re-opens Oct. 15.
