+ Lady Rams soccer advances to district semis
The Riverview High girls soccer team defeated North Port 3-0 in the Class 5A-District 8 quarterfinals Jan. 12.
Kendal Gollnick scored a pair of goals, and K.J. Davidson-Turner scored the final goal for Riverview.
The third-seeded Lady Rams will return to action at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 in the semifinals at second-seed East Lake.

+ Riverview basketball tops Braden River
The Riverview High boys basketball team defeated Braden River 54-40 in the final game of the Manasota Basketball Classic Jan. 12, at Lakewood Ranch High.

Austin Walker scored 17 points, and Nick Havener added 16 points to lead the way for the Rams.

+ Sarasota Christian takes win over Bayshore
The Sarasota Christian boys basketball team cruised to a 74-62 victory over Bayshore Jan. 12.
Henry Ford had 18 points and six assists to lead the way for the Blazers. Emmanuel Lambright and Blake Morrow had 10 points each.

+ Cougar basketball charges past Tornadoes
Antonio Blakeney scored 28 points to lead the Cardinal Mooney High boys basketball team to a 65-52 victory over Booker Jan. 11.

Ryan McMahon scored 13 points, and Jamie Glasser added 12 points for the Cougars.

Mike Jones scored 12 points to pace the Tornadoes. Blake Harper had 10 points, and Shamyren Waters added eight points.

+ Sarasota High grapplers finish third
The Sarasota High wrestling team finished third at the Massung Duals Jan. 12, in Lakeland.

Team captain Toby Baker, who is ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 3A, went 5-0 to win the 285-pound weight class and improve his record to 45-1. Daniel Emery (106), DeAundre Butler (113), Jiovanhi Mieja (126), Jarred Hardinger (138) and Chaz Pilkey (220) all went 4-1.

+ SMA soccer blanks St. Pete Canterbury
The Sarasota Military Academy boys soccer team shut out St. Petersburg Canterbury 1-0 Jan. 14.

Nick Dupras scored the lone goal of the match. Goalkeeper Frank Galambos had five saves.

+ Lady Thunder soccer wins season finale
The Out-of-Door Academy girls soccer team defeated Sarasota Christian 4-1 in its regular season finale Jan. 11.

Skylar Jungers scored a pair of goals and added two assists to lead the way for the Lady Thunder. Elena Ciaccio and Melanie Mason also had goals. Kimmy Comito and Juliet Onufrak each had an assist.

+ Sarasota Christian posts shutout win
The Sarasota Christian boys soccer team blanked Bradenton Christian 2-0 Jan. 11.

Gunnar Kral and Joshua Markowski each had a goal for the Blazers. Cam Murphy and Shane Shifflett each had an assist. Goalkeeper Brandon Shine had nine saves.

+ GSJGA tees off Winter Tournament Series
The Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association began its Winter Tournament Series Jan. 13, at the Royal Lakes Course of the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.
Nearly 50 players participated in the event.

+ Sun Coast Senior Men’s Tennis League in full swing
The Sun Coast Senior Men’s Tennis League is in the midst of its 31st season with more than 1,600 players from 30 tennis clubs in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
The league began its season in early November and will continue playing through March.
