Obituary: Gary Randall Grundy

Gary Randall Grundy, 67, of Longboat Key, died April 3.

Mr. Grundy studied at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va., and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. He worked for Old Dominion Camera Co. and then Philip Morris USA for 25 years.

Mr. Grundy was a past president of the RealRail Model Train Club of Sarasota-Manatee counties. He volunteered with Mote Marine Laboratory’s Tampa Bay Redfish Stock Enhancement program. He worshipped at Roser Memorial Community Church on Anna Maria Island and was a member of the Sarasota Yacht Club.

A man with a green thumb, Mr. Grundy won the Piedmont District and Virginia State Award for indoor gardening from the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs, as well as the Civic Beautification Award from the Longboat Key Garden Club. He also loved being on the water. A member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, he taught sailing lessons and Coast Guard safe boating courses in the lower Chesapeake Bay area. He enjoyed scuba diving and fishing, as well.

Mr. Grundy is survived by his wife, Betsy, and his brother, Allan.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Roser Memorial Community Church chapel, 512 Pine Ave., Anna Maria.
