+ Town to hold interviews for P&Z director
The town will interview five candidates for the Planning Zoning & Building director position April 2. Candidates were selected from an initial pool of 62 applicants. The town has advertised the position as paying $76,024 to $117,728 and requiring a bachelor’s degree in planning, architecture, engineering, building construction or related field and a minimum of eight years in building construction, land development or planning with at least three years in a supervisory or public administrative position.

+ Town, Chamber to unveil advertising program
The town of Longboat Key, the Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce and Studio 26 Production Co. will introduce an advertising program to chamber members at the 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 27 “Business at Breakfast” that will allow members to advertise on live-streamed Longboat Key Town Commission meetings that remain available on the town’s website, longboatkey.org. The Longboat Key Town Commission budgeted funds to offer live-stream videos of its meeting through March, but the town has enough funds left over to carry the service through the May regular meeting. The advertising program was developed to help offset town costs.

+ Publix receives extended construction hours
Town Manager David Bullock has authorized extended construction hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. excluding Sundays for Publix for a 30-day period beginning March 26. Town ordinances typically limit construction hours to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Publix is slated to close its existing store in April and demolish it in May in preparation for the December opening of its new store.

+ Commission holds off on charter review
The Longboat Key Town Commission reached consensus at its March 15 workshop to hold off on the discussion of a potential charter review until the fall, after its review of codes. The town must review its charter at least every 10 years. The last charter review took place in 2007.
