The home at 1212 Westway Drive in Lido Shores has undergone a dramatic transformation in the last two years, thanks to a variety of creative minds throughout Sarasota. The Sarasota Architectural Foundation held a tour of the home Tuesday for both members and non-members of SAF.

The two-year-long transformation of Scott and Christine Key’s home was taken on by TOTeMs’ Jerry Sparkman and Arif Abdulla; John Wheeler Landscape; and interior designer Karen Brown. Mike Adams, of Third Coast Construction, was the general contractor.

“The design is based around a new landscape courtyard that connects both sides of the property to introduce a contemporary aesthetic, create space for vertical circulation and strengthen the home to current hurricane code standards,” said TOTeMs principal-in-charge Jerry Sparkman.

The home, originally built in 1956, is referred to as “Strandhus,” which translates to “beach home” in Swedish. The home was redone using natural materials, wood paneling and stone flooring, as well with ceramics and recycled resins.
