MANATEE COUNTY — Jamie Foss is determined to make each little girl feel like a treasured princess.

And each girl’s prince charming, she said, won’t be a boy from school. Rather, it will be her dad.

Foss, a mother of four, and a team of volunteers from Bayside's Mothers of Preschoolers group are hosting a community-wide “Princess Today, Queen Tomorrow Father Daughter Dance” for fathers and daughters of all ages. The event, which will be held from 7-10 p.m. March 9, at Bayside Community Church, 15800 S.R. 64 E., costs $30 per couple and $10 per additional child. Dress is semi-formal.

Cost includes a sit-down dinner with service, photos, dancing and other special treats.

“We’re trying to make it the most memorable, elegant and affordable night possible,” Foss said. “To know you are special in someone’s eyes is huge. That’s why I wanted to do this.

“I want every daughter to know how special she is,” she said. “I can’t wait to see the faces of these girls.”
Foss said songs selected for dancing will be music that encourages dads to get out on the dance floor with their children, not just watch from the sidelines.

Although the event is being held at a church, the dance is meant for the entire public to enjoy, Foss said. Families who home school their children or whose schools do not offer father/daughter dances are welcome to attend, as well as any other father/daughter pairs who wish to participate.

“I wanted to make it available so everybody is able to get involved,” Foss said. “It’s for the community. There’s no age cap.”

“I want it to be bigger than Bayside,” she said. “I want it to be all churches, all schools, all people.”

Foss also said she is encouraging family friends and relatives of girls without a father in their lives, to step into the role for the evening and help make a child feel special. She also hopes to see teenage girls, especially, in attendance.

Ticket reservations are required by March 2.

The dance is a fundraiser for Bayside's MOPS group.
