John Crimaldi has a love for a unique sport that he has enjoyed for 35 years. Crimaldi, 81, is a rower and goes out on his rowing shell almost every day in Bishop’s Bayou, behind his home in Whitney Beach Condominium. Crimaldi also rows during the summer while in New Hampshire. In addition, Crimaldi plays tennis every day and plays golf three to four times a week. *** VIDEO BELOW! ***

How did you get into rowing?
I’ve always been very comfortable on the water. Now, I row because it’s not any impact like tennis and even golf. It’s a very good sport for older guys, because I can go out for hours.

Do you ever compete in rowing events?
I am considering several rowing events — hopefully they have over-80 categories where I might be the only one! I don’t normally compete. It’s just kind of a way to get back in touch with yourself on the water.

What wildlife do you see when you are out?
Of course, the big thing is the porpoise or dolphin, and they very often are feeding … they smell terrible because they eat fish all the time!
