Home and Garden Tour will be in full bloom

The owners of five unique homes throughout Longboat Key and Lido Shores will be opening their doors to the public during the Longboat Key Garden Club’s 35th annual Home and Garden Tour Saturday, March 5.

This year’s tour will begin on the north end of the Key at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, a Division of Ringling College of Art and Design, where guests will be shown around the Arts Center’s galleries and studios.

Guests will then make their way south, stopping at the homes of Jim and Susan Pressly, Don and Mary Haas, Lenny and Susan Landau and Honey Mann. The final destination will be the Lido Shores home of Ralph and Sheri Trine, where a poolside raffle by award-winning artists and an arts-and-crafts boutique will be held.

The tour will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 5. Tickets are $20 and will go on sale Feb. 22 at various locations throughout Longboat Key, Anna Maria and Sarasota (see box below).

Proceeds from the tour will go to the Garden Club’s scholarships, grants and educational and community projects, such as the club’s help in sending local youth to Camp Wekiva, which specializes in nature study. Last year’s tour netted $14,000, and Garden Club President Jackie Salvino expects this year to be an even bigger success.

“The community has been wonderfully supportive this year,” says Salvino.

The Garden Club has already raised $5,000 through advertisements for its tour booklet, which is given to everyone taking the tour and acts as the ticket to each house.
