Josh Damm has loved soccer since he was 4 years old. Damm is now a senior at Riverview High School, where he is captain of the Riverview varsity soccer team, and is also a member and captain of the U19 Suncoast Spartan team. Damm is hoping to continue playing soccer in college and has had many accomplishments on the field, including receiving the title of Most Valuable Defensive Player for his high school.

Q&A

What are you strengths and your weaknesses in soccer?
My strengths in soccer are probably heading the ball and defending, because I’m a big body for a defender. My weaknesses are probably dribbling and taking people on.

Do you have a favorite memory from this season?

My best memory of soccer this year was district semi-finals. We won in the last two minutes of overtime, in the second overtime, to go on to district finals and then continue on to regionals.

Who is your favorite professional soccer player?

My favorite player, I would say, would have to be Didier Drogba, from Chelsea. I just love the way he plays. He’s a very physical player. He has a great shot, and he scores a lot of goals.

Why do you love soccer?

I love the game of soccer because, for me, especially with my teams, I love playing with my teams and I love everyone on them. I love using my feet rather than my hands. It’s a more physical game and an enduring game than people make it out to be, and it definitely pushes me to use all of my abilities.
