+ Post office prepares for tax deadline
The Longboat Key Post Office has additional supplies of both certified mail and return receipt U.S. postal forms available for taxpayers submitting tax forms to the Internal Revenue Service before the Monday, April 18 tax deadline this year.

Proper preparation of these forms will allow postal clerks to efficiently process and complete these transactions, limiting the amount of time each customer has to spend waiting.

Additional assistance will be present in the Longboat Key Post Office lobby throughout the day April 18 to answer any questions. However, there will not be extended post office hours. Regular business hours at the Longboat Key Post Office are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Contact the Longboat Key Post Office at 383-4499 or email Postmaster Rodney Masengale at [email protected] for more information.

+ Historical Society requests funds
Longboat Key Historical Society President Tom Mayers requested the town allocate at least $1,000 per year to the organization.

In a March 31 email to Town Manager Bruce St. Denis and the Longboat Key Town Commission in response to the town’s request that the Historical Society participate in the 2011 Goals and Objectives Workshop, Mayers wrote:

“Our core belief is that the Historical Society makes life more interesting and fun here on Longboat Key. This belief reflects your Vision goal of ‘strategies and tactics, which both preserve and promote Longboat Key to benefit existing and future residents and businesses.’”

The Goals and Objectives Workshop will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, at Longboat Key Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.

The Longboat Key Historical Society Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. most weekdays, at 6826 Gulf of Mexico Drive, and features past Longboat Key newspapers, photographs, video and audio.
