OBITUARY: James Michael 'Mike' Callans

James Michael “Mike” Callans, 75, of University Park and Las Vegas, died Sept. 5.

Mr. Callans was raised in Farmersburg, Ind., and attended Indiana State University. He started a career in sales at Vigo Tire Mart, in Terre Haute, Ind. During his career, he became president of Reco Sales. After retiring in 1980 to Longboat Key, he worked in management at The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort. After leaving the Colony, he founded J.M.C. Property Management, which he sold in 2008.

Mr. Callans was preceded in death by his sister, Dee Ann Van Lannen.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanna Hopper Callans; son, Kevin, of Sarasota; one granddaughter; three great-grandsons; and one niece.

A memorial gathering took place Friday, Sept. 10, in Sarasota.
