May 6
Lighten their load
2:34 p.m. — Town Dock.
Parking Violation. Police responded to a complaint and found a construction loader parked in the middle of the Linley Street boat ramp. A man building a home on Jewfish Key told police his landscaping contractor left the loader there, and he had it removed.

Up in smoke
10:02 p.m. — 2800 block of Harbourside Drive.
Suspicious Circumstance. Longboat Key Club Moorings security reported restaurant employees smoking marijuana in the parking lot. By the time police arrived, most of the employees had left the area. Police warned one employee to tell the others that employees found smoking marijuana would be arrested.

May 7
Money talks
9:14 a.m. — 1900 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. (GMD).
Suspicious Circumstance. A woman called to report that someone pretending to be her grandson called her to explain he had gotten into some legal trouble and needed $8,000 from her. The woman realized it wasn’t her grandson and yelled at the caller the next day when he called back again.

May 8
Roommate dispute
3:12 a.m. — 4000 block of GMD.
Public Service. A woman called police and asked them to check on one of her girlfriends, who was extremely upset. The friend told police she was involved in a civil dispute with some friends in Sarasota who no longer wanted her to live with them. She said that no physical violence took place and agreed to leave quietly.

May 10
Not so clean getaway
1:03 p.m. — 2800 block of Harbourside Drive.
Warrants. Police arrested a man who was cleaning a client’s boat at the Longboat Key Club Moorings Marina. The man was wanted in Manatee County for charges of grand theft. He was transported to jail.

Night walker
7:04 p.m. — 10 block of GMD.
Suspicious Person. Police found a homeless man who wanted “to walk Longboat Key.” Police advised the man there was no place to walk because most of the island is private property and the parks close at night. The man turned around and walked back toward Lido Key.

May 11
Party in paradise
6:55 p.m. — 600 block of Dream Island Road.
Noise Disturbance. A woman told police that the noise coming from her neighbor’s house was too loud. Police contacted the neighbor, who informed the officer that the band had stopped playing for the evening and about 50 guests would be leaving soon on a bus back to Tampa.

May 12
Fast and furious
1:01 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Reckless Driving. A grocery-store employee told police that a man in his 70s pulled up next to him, waved a knife and told him he was driving too slowly.

Digging for trouble
1:12 p.m. — 1200 block of Bogey Lane.
Larceny. A woman reported that someone stole $200 worth of garden tools from a shed near her house while she was gone for two days.
