LOVE THY NEIGHBOR
2:21 a.m. — 4700 block of North Tamiami Trail
Dispute/Fight: A man said he was in a verbal altercation with his neighbor who lives in an adjacent apartment. The man said the woman yells at him because he snores, and he’s not sure who she is because she only communicates with him through the wall. Officers were unable to make contact with the neighbor and advised the man to contact his landlord about the issue.
SQUATTER’S WRONGS
6 p.m. — 3200 block of South School Avenue
Trespass: A man reported that someone illegally entered a vacant property he owns. The man discovered footprints on the floor and synthetic marijuana on the windowsills. A nearby resident said she saw two youths walk around to the back of the house recently, which she thought was unusual. The property owner asked for extra patrols around the area.
CAR CRISIS
2 a.m. — 1100 block of Patterson Drive
Criminal Mischief: Earlier in the night, a woman called police about someone threatening her and threatening to throw a brick at her vehicle. When the woman woke up, she looked at her car and saw someone had scratched the paint on the front bumper. The woman believed one of two people was responsible, though there were no witnesses.
TOUGH BREAK
10:50 p.m. — 1700 block of Morrill Street
Suspicion General/Unknown: A man came home and discovered a key stuck in his front door knob. The man’s friend attempted to pull the key out of the door with a pair of pliers, but the key broke off instead. Nobody was able to get the other part of the key out of the handle. The man was not able to get into his apartment, and said he would contact his landlord in the morning.
SWING AND A MISS
5:50 p.m. — 3200 block of North Tamiami Trail
Fight: A man received a text message from another male, challenging him to a fight in an ongoing dispute regarding a woman. The man met the other male at the parking lot of a bank, at which point they began fighting. The man reported that, during the altercation, the other male pulled out a baseball bat, hitting him in the arm and then breaking out windows in his car. The other male admitted to his involvement in the altercation, but said he only used the baseball bat out of self-defense when one of the man’s friends began swinging a rifle at him. Both men said they did not wish to press charges for the incident.
