BRUSH WITH THE LAW
8:54 a.m. — 2000 block of Hillview Street
Dispute: A store manager informed the police that a painting company was using her business’s water to clean its brushes and hook up a hose for pressure washing an adjacent business. The painters said they got permission from the property owner to use the water, but the property owner told the manager that he had not given any permission. An employee with the painting company told the officer he was not working the day in question, but he knew he was not allowed to use the water at the manager’s business. The manager wanted the incident documented in case there were further issues.

Oct. 16

TOOL TIME
7 a.m. — 2400 block of Walker Circle
Dispute: A man reported that his neighbor placed dog poop in his garbage. He asked an officer to tell his neighbor to not put items in his garbage bins. When the officer spoke to the neighbor, she got upset the man called the police. She said the man walked into her house without knocking several years ago, and one of the man’s toolboxes crossed the property line and was about three inches into her yard. The man said he did not know where the property line was, and that he was not going to move the toolbox. The neighbor said she would hire a surveyor to prove the toolbox was partially in her yard.

BURN NOTICE
3:22 p.m. — 1400 block of First Street
Theft: A security guard at a grocery store witnessed a man placing a bottle of heartburn relief pills in his pocket. The man went to the register to pay for other items and left the store. The guard made contact with the man and alerted the police. An officer issued a trespass warning to the man.

CHECKING OUT
7:59 p.m. — 800 block of South Tamiami Trail
Dispute: An employee at a hotel said a guest who booked a room at the hotel was being rude and argumentative when she checked in. The employee wanted the guest to leave. The guest said she would leave when the employee gave her a refund for the room she booked. The guest booked a room through a third-party website, and the employee was unable to issue a refund at the time. Officers told the guest to contact the website for a refund. She agreed and left the area without further incident.
