PHOTO GALLERY: Sarasota Polo Club goes Renaissance

Hundreds of people came out to enjoy a day at the Sarasota Polo Grounds, Sunday, Jan. 22. The Wildcat Polo team played against M&I Wealth Management and won 11 - 8. The theme for the crowd was 'Renaissance' and some people had fun dressing up in costumes, drinking out of goblets and one group of tailgaters even made a castle.

The Braden River High boys soccer team fell short of its quest for its first district title with a 1-0 loss to Manatee in the Class 4A-District 11 championship Jan. 27. As the District 11 runner-up, the Pirates will travel to Naples Gulf Coast for a Class 4A-Region 3 quarterfinal Jan. 31. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Thousands of youth soccer players put their skills to the test during the Nike Cup Labor Day Showcase Sept. 3-5 at the Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch. More than 300 boys and girls teams, ranging in age from U9-U18, from across the state participated in the annual event, which was hosted by the Clearwater Chargers and the Fusion Futbol Club.

GALLERY: BKYC v. SYC Bowling Tournament

The last time Bird Key Yacht Club and Sarasota Yacht Club's bowling teams faced off against one another was five years ago. Prior to that the clubs had a yearly competition and the winning club would go home with the trophy and get to keep it until the following year when it could be back up for grabs. This year SYC won by a mere 141 points.

Participants attempted to hit 50 clay targets spread over three courses. Awards were presented to the top three teams as well as the highest individual shooter.
