Local rivals Serve up a Cure

The Riverview High volleyball team beat Sarasota 3-0 in their annual Pink Match Oct. 14.

Dressed in pink jerseys and headbands, the Riverview and Sarasota High volleyball teams showed their support for breast cancer awareness during their annual Serve up a Cure Pink Match Oct. 14. 

The host Lady Rams won the non-district match 25-20, 25-10, 27-25. Proceeds from the match benefitted Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. 

Kenzie Walker powered Riverview with 17 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Setter Kayla Walker dished out 45 assists to go along with seven kills and two aces. Margo Schnapf added 10 kills and nine digs. Libero Sam Norden tallied 12 digs and 11 perfect passes. 

Hannah Hritz led Sarasota with 10 kills and eight digs. Jessica Shiffner finished with nine kills and 11 digs. Setter Gaby Diaz contributed 25 assists and 17 digs. 

With the win, Riverview finished the regular season 19-1. The Lady Rams will host Lithia Newsome in a district semifinal match Oct. 20.
