Author Luncheon welcomes Cokie Roberts

Journalist and author Cokie Roberts answers questions as the guest speaker for the Library Foundation of Sarasota County’s 4th annual Author Luncheon.

Guests gathered for the Library Foundation of Sarasota County’s 4th annual Author Luncheon featuring Cokie Roberts Monday, Feb. 8 at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota. 

Roberts is known as contributing senior news analyst for National Public Radio and as a political commentator for ABC News. 

Roberts shared her experience growing up in Washington D.C. as the daughter of a Democratic Congressman from Louisiana Hale Boggs and Lindy Boggs, who  served as a Democratic Congresswoman from Louisiana and also an ambassador. 

She reflected on how partisanship has changed since the time of her father as Majority Lead of the House of Representatives. Roberts commented on the role Florida will play in helping determine the presidential nominees for both parties. 

“You have the all-important winner-take-all primary,” Roberts said. “Up until then all the candidates just get parceled out one by one.”

Following her presentation she took questions from the crowd and autographed copies of her last book "Capital Dames."
