June 21 "Snake Charmer" 5:24 p.m. - Animal Rescue. Police noticed an unsteady bicyclist swerving into Gulf of Mexico Drive. Police discovered he was holding a snake in his hand while riding. Police stopped the bicyclist, took the 3-foot dead rat snake from him and promised to give it a proper burial.

The 10 sales for the week, which included eight on Longboat Key, two in Manatee County, one on St. Armands Key, and one on Bird Key, represented a slight increase from the prior week, during which eight sales were recorded.

Mar Vista kicked off this Fourth of July weekend with its second annual "Boom-Boom on the Bay." The BeachHouse will hold its fireworks extravaganza July 3, followed by The Sandbar Restaurant July 4.
