The EDC of Sarasota County held its annual meeting Friday, Sept. 21, at the Hyatt Regency. During the meeting, the EDC honored local businesses with its Legacy Awards. Jim Tollerton, owner and president of Professional Benefits in Sarasota, received the Clyde Nixon Business Leadership Award, and USF Sarasota-Manatee received the John J. Cox Community Partner of the Year Award. Guests also enjoyed a speech from Dale Brill, president of the Florida Chamber Foundation, who spoke of the changing nature of Florida's economy and what business must do to adapt.
