Seventeen of the top tennis teams from across the country hit the courts for the 2011 Intercollegiate Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic Nov. 11-13 at the Lakewood Ranch Athletic Center. Players competed in singles and doubles tournaments, which count toward individual player rankings. Following the tournament, the players, coaches and sponsors enjoyed an after party at the home of Lakewood Ranch residents Dick and Lorraine Vitale.

East County residents enjoyed an afternoon of food and fun during the fourth annual Chili Cook-Off Nov. 13 on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch. Guests sampled a variety of chili, as Manatee County Emergency Services battled for the title of the county's best chili. Those in attendance also enjoyed listening to the sounds of Paper Airplanes, got an up close look at several fire trucks and ambulances and climbed a rock wall, among other games and activities.

The event featured more than 300 American and international wines, food from 35 of the area's top restaurants, cooking demonstrations, beer tastings, silent auction, live music and more. Proceeds benefit the charities and projects of the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch.
