About 80 customers of the city's utilities department are under a boil-water order for 48 hours, following a pipe break at Floyd Street and Tuttle Avenue.
The Arlington Park Neighborhood Association posted around 2 p.m. that the break had been repaired, though city officials said the 12-foot deep hole around the repair site was still being backfilled and the roadway patched. In a social media post, Sarasota Police said the incident was caused by a contractor.
For hours on Tuesday morning, southbound traffic on Tuttle Avenue was rerouted as city utilities crews repaired the break.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bottled water should be used during a water advisory, or tap water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute to kill bacteria and parasites. Do not drink tap water, use ice makers, or brush teeth with tap water. Use boiled or bottled water for cooking, washing produce, and dishwashing.
Affected customers would be notified when the boil-water advisory is lifted, a city spokesman said.
