Selfie scopophiliac

11:30 p.m., Zero block of Central Avenue

Disturbance: In the interest of alliteration, the Cops Corner team chose scopophiliac for the headline, which in layman’s parlance is a peeper. While on routine patrol, an officer observed an adult male at Five Points Park taking videos on his phone of young females who were engaging in that most on-trend of modern pastimes — taking photos of themselves, likely posing and puckering for no particular reason.

The man also appeared to be making himself at home for the night.

Being the man had no reasonable explanation for his actions, though, and his activity was unlawful in the park after hours, he was issued a summons to appear in community care court. He was also trespassed from the park for 365 days.

Breach of bathroom etiquette

12:33 a.m., 1400 block of Main Street

Trespassing: A staff member of a downtown nightclub advised officers a man was causing issues inside by “acting strange inside the men’s restroom.” A description of the “strange” behavior was not included in the incident report.

The subject explained to officers that the bathroom was overcrowded and he was not doing anything wrong. He added he fled from security when he was approached because he felt he was being escorted off the property and did not understand why. He was released by officers with no further issue.

Whatever his behavior was, though, it was enough to cause the club to have the man trespassed from the establishment for a period of one year.

Just around the corner

4:58 a.m., MLK Jr. Way at North Washington Boulevard

Robbery: Officers responded to a report of a robbery and that the suspects may still be on the scene, according to dispatch. An officer located the victim, who was walking toward the corner of Pershing Avenue and MLK Jr. Way but, after trying to get his attention, he continued to walk away.

Others in the area, for some reason before 5 a.m., were yelling that his bike was "right there,” which as it turned out was around the corner. The officer asked the man, who was sweating and appeared to have been in an altercation, if he wished to report a robbery or an assault. Because he retrieved his bike, he declined to pursue charges.

A youthful indiscretion

5:06 p.m., 4700 block of North Tamiami Trail

Property damage: The tenant of a commercial building reported several juveniles threw a rock through a window on the north side of the building, causing it to break. The complainant was informed by a co-worker who witnessed six delinquents running away from the building, estimating their age to be between 10 and 12.

The owner of the property was looped in via phone call, who said he would review surveillance footage from the area and contact the officer once it becomes available. The status of the case was closed pending further investigation.

Phone fight

12:06 a.m., 1700 block of Ringling Boulevard

Disturbance: Responding to a call about a disturbance, upon arrival officers heard the loud voices of a male and female arguing outside of a dwelling. After being separated, officers learned this had been going on for about 45 minutes.

The man advised that his girlfriend, at least for the time being, arrived home intoxicated and began yelling at him and hiding his belongings in the bathroom. He said the altercation was not physical and that he believed she would stop arguing with him once the officers left.

The woman concurred with the man’s assessment, although she was intoxicated and uncooperative with law enforcement. She did say the argument was over his cell phone, although the incident report did not specify the reason.
