East County Athlete of the Week: Trevion Dixon

Basketball was the sport Trevion Dixon knew best. Midway through his high school journey, though, he elected to give football a go. The wide receiver recorded a team-high 505 receiving yards on 23 receptions for Braden River High in 2025 — his first season. He's eyeing even bigger numbers as a senior this season. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound Dixon is the East County Athlete of the Week.

When and why did you start playing football?

I was a basketball player before. I've always been a basketball player. But then I started getting into football, knowing that I'm speedy. I just fell into it.

How have you prepared for this season?

Being in the weight room is a big part of what I'm trying to do. I'm going from being an outside receiver to a slot, so I'll be taking more hits.

What goals do you have for your senior season?

With the team, definitely a winning record. The last time we had a winning record was 2021. As seniors around here, we have the chance to leave our mark here — to do something that hasn't been done in such a long time. I had a 500-yard season last year, so I'm definitely improving and just trying to climb.

How did you gravitate to wide receiver as your primary position?

I tried (defensive back) and I tried wide receiver. I just felt like I had the most fun at receiver. Catching the ball, scoring touchdowns and things like that are the most fun.

Why have you stuck with this sport?

The people that I'm surrounded with in football have helped me in tremendous ways outside of football — life lessons and things like that. I have a lot of fun with the sport, so I think it's something that I have to stick with.

Which quote or piece of advice have you always carried with you?

"Chop wood, carry water." You have to do the dirty work to get to the nitty gritty.

What's a fun fact about you not many people know?

I cut hair. I've been doing that since seventh grade. My uncle (Dunie Dixon) is a barber, so he was in the shop and he was showing me tips. I started practicing by myself and family members started trusting me (to cut their hair) as well.

Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?

I have another uncle (Mike Jenkins) who played in the NFL. He played (defensive back for the Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2008-15). Seeing how he trained and the people he surrounded himself with is just crazy. The way he devoted himself every day to something that he really wanted to do has shown me where I want to be one day and what I want to do.

If you could go anywhere for a dream vacation, where would you go and why?

Turks and Caicos. It's a more obvious answer, but it seems like a very good place and a very beautiful place to go.
