9:30 p.m., Longboat Club Road
Trespassing: Months after a security guard called police on a group of kids fishing on private property without permission, the perpetrators were finally identified. A police officer on patrol cracked the case after he saw a group of people at a closed golf course, the same course where trespassing calls were received regarding a group of fishermen evading security. Back in October, the group was able to skip town before police arrived, but this time out, police were able to issue trespass warnings to the individuals. That’s due, in part, to the police work of an officer who noticed vehicles parked at the gas station with fishing poles in them. The officer waited at the vehicle while the security guard flushed out the fishers, right into the hands of the waiting officer. The young adults were given trespass warnings and told they could not return to the property. No fishing, case closed.
12:55 p.m., Bayou Sound
Lost/found property: About a week after her flight, a woman called police to report lost property. Police arrived at the caller’s home and was told by the complainant that she believes she left her driver's license on an American Airlines flight eight days ago. She told the officer that she had already informed American Airlines and the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport of the missing license. The officer informed the woman of how she can order a replacement driver's license online. Since the item was last seen outside of town limits, the police officer had no information to add to the case, which he closed.
10:05 a.m., 1000 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive
Trespassing: A man was performing some construction work on a Saturday morning when he realized he needed to make a run to the store to get some supplies. He left his condo to make a Home Depot run, leaving his door unlocked. When he returned, he found his door open, neighbor inside, and an argument ensued. The invader neighbor said he thought he heard construction work, which is not permitted on the weekend, and walked in to investigate. The condo owner yelled at his neighbor and told him to never enter his property again. He stewed over the incident over the weekend and called police Monday morning. He decided not to trespass his neighbor, but did want to document the incident in a police report. The police cleared the case, and the condo owner likely developed a door-locking habit.
7:30 p.m., North Shore Beach
Suspicious vehicle: A woman walking on the beach called the police after vehicle shined its lights upon her. When police arrived, the woman said she was walking on the beach near a road when a vehicle turned around and shined a light in her direction. Upon questioning, the officer determined that the vehicle did not approach her, no words were exchanged and no criminal activity occurred. Police canvassed the area, saw nothing suspicious, and closed the case.
