Trespassing: Police were called to a restaurant on the north end of Longboat Key on a battery call that was later updated to a trespassing call after investigation. The caller told dispatchers that an intoxicated diner had made inappropriate comments toward staff before becoming involved in an argument with another customer inside the restaurant. When police arrived, the suspect was seated at his table. Restaurant staff informed the officer they did not want to trespass the individual, so police asked the man to step outside for a conversation. That culminated in the intoxicated diner getting a ride home across the bridge by police, and the case was closed.

Suspicious incident: Police were called to a resort on a suspicious incident call and possible motor vehicle collision. Police spoke with security upon arrival who informed officers that a woman had taken a vehicle and driven it to the other side of the property, possibly striking a porta potty during the trip. Security also told police that the owner of the vehicle was inside, upset his car had been taken. When police made contact with the man, he was no longer bothered upon finding out the person who took his vehicle was his girlfriend. Police then inspected the vehicle, the closest thing to damage being a thin layer of undisturbed dust. Canvassing the area, police found no evidence of a vehicle collision or property damage, and decided to close the case.

Suspicious person: While on foot patrol for an unrelated property damage call, police stumbled upon a character who was worth noting in a police report. A woman wearing a blue coat approached the officer and informed him that she was “going to shut down the pedophiles, fallen angels and free masons.” The officer continued the conversation with the woman, who informed him that she had a blog on Facebook called “Bluebird on the Wire.” The officer wrote that the woman did not meet the criteria for Baker Act, and that no known crime had been committed and closed the case.
1:21 p.m., Jungle Queen Way
Animal problem: Police were called on a frustrated homeowner who had seen her neighbor’s pooch squat in her front yard one too many times. The caller told dispatchers she had video evidence of multiple instances of the event. When police arrived, they told the homeowner about the local canine waste ordinance and trespass statutes, and was told what to do if the event occurred again. No suspects — human or canine — were present when police arrived, and police closed the case.
