Suspect caught after shooting near Palmer Ranch

Sheriff’s deputies responding to a report of a shooting in a shopping area near Palmer Ranch took a suspect into custody a short time later, while the victim was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, reports of a shooting at a home improvement store on Central Sarasota Parkway were received from the 4000 block, near the intersection of Potter Park Drive.

The sheriff’s department said the incident was domestic in nature, and the suspect initially fled but was taken into custody. According to the Sheriff's Department, the victim called 911 to say he had been shot in the leg and that his assailant had gotten away. The Sheriff's Department said the victim and suspect Kaleb Michael Caire, 25,  know each other. 

Caire was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (domestic); aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill (domestic); obstructing justice; tampering with evidence in a criminal proceeding, and discharge firearm/weapon on public/residential property.
