City names new human resources director

Dominique Anderson has been appointed human resources director for the city of Sarasota after serving for six months as acting director.

With 11 employees, the Human Resources Department conducts essential internal and external city functions, including recruiting, professional development, risk management, ADA compliance, and employee and labor relations. It also provides services to the city’s Human Relations Board and Citizens with Disabilities Advisory Board.

“Dominique has demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism and dedication in serving the city of Sarasota,” said City Manager Karie Friling in a news release. “I’m confident this appointment will strengthen our human resources operations and support our employees and departments citywide.”

Anderson joined the city in 2014 after starting her career in the private sector. She held several roles within the HR department before being promoted to general manager in 2023. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Leo University and a master’s degree in management from the University of Phoenix.

In the news release, Anderson said, “I look forward to working with my team to set the bar high for customer service and make the HR Department a place where employees are welcomed, valued and empowered to do their best work.”
