Beachplace Association recently made a donation of $7,056 and several boxes of nonperishable foods through its end-of-season festivities.

The fundraising event featured a golf tournament at the Longboat Key Club, along with card games and mahjong competitions for non-golfers.

Beachplace has organized its annual golf tournament for many years, and the contributions collected this year support All Faiths Food Bank. Organizers presented the check April 14.

Summer break can be an especially challenging time for families facing hunger. To support them, the food bank launched a campaign running through May 15, where gifts up to $1 million will be matched.

Carol Staitman credited resident Linda Gass for being the driving force behind Beachplace's success this year.
