Driver pronounced dead after Lakewood Ranch crash

A 69-year-old driver was pronounced dead Sunday after a crash in the Lakewood Ranch community of Country Club east after suffering a possible medical episode, the Florida Highway Patrol said Sunday night.

The 11:42 a.m. incident took place at the corner of Eagle Watch Way and Miramar Way, within the residential neighborhood near the corner of Lorraine Road and University Parkway.

The FHP reported the 2017 Lexus the man was driving left the roadway, drove over a curb and into some roadside shrubbery. 

The Lakewood Ranch man, who was not identified by name, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An FHP spokesman said the incident remains under investigation.

Thus far in 2026, 15 people have died in traffic crashes on Manatee County roadways and highways, according to Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. In all, 1,716 crashes have been reported.
