Dakin Dairy Farms' Bull Bash attracts 2,000 fans on Easter weekend

Sarasota's Harlyn Voyles, 7, held on tight to a sheep's wool as the gate swung open to let them into the arena. The whole time she felt as if she was going to fall off, but she held on as long as she could, or 5.64 seconds.

"The most that's going to happen is she gets a little dirt on her face and clothes," said Marilyn Voyles, Harlyn's mom. "It gives her courage to conquer fears."

The Voyles were attending Dakin Dairy Farms' Bull Bash April 4, along with 2,000 others. A variety of activities were available that included bull riding, mutton busting, monster truck rides, calf cuddles, and more.

Okeechobee's Kevin Rooster McKeeman was one of the competitors in the bull riding competition.

"There's no better feeling than conquering a beast who could come back and hurt you," McKeeman said. "I'm humbled by it."

Sarasota's Kristina Ely attended the event with her 3-year-old son, Jayden. 

"Dakin Dairy events never disappoint," Ely said. "We always have such a great time and it’s an awesome place for the kids to run around and be kids."

Grant Dakin is one of the four brothers who own Dakin Dairy Farms. He said he is glad to welcome families to interact with the animals, try their products, and learn where food originates.

"We’re fourth generation farmers trying to keep it in the family as long as we can," Grant Dakin said. "We’re trying to keep people in touch, and keep agriculture alive within our community."
