Five Miami men, ranging in age from 22 to 38, were charged by Sarasota County authorities with felony murder and other offenses in connection with a traffic crash that killed an area motorcyclist in April 2023.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday the charges against the men. Charged are:
Carbonell, Norris and Rosemond are in the Sarasota County Correctional Facility with no bond allowed. Allen Hunt is awaiting extradition to Sarasota from Miami. Trillo is in the Miami-Dade County jail on a 2023 attempted murder charge. He is expected to be extradited when that case is resolved, the sheriff’s office said.
In a news release, the sheriff’s office said the men came to Sarasota in April 2023 with the intent to steal catalytic converters from vehicles belonging to two adjacent businesses: All Glass and Windows (AGW) and Arrow Environmental Services, both near Celery Fields. In total, 22 catalytic converters were removed with an estimated value of $94,000, the sheriff’s department said.
As deputies were on their way to the resulting burglary-in-progress call, an Audi fled the scene, ran a red light and collided with a motorcycle ridden by 21-year-old Leonardo Adams, killing him. The Audi was discovered abandoned near Interstate 75 and Fruitville Road. The sheriff’s department says Norris was identified as the driver of the Audi. Carbonell was seen driving a secondary car. The others were passengers.
