Neighbors by Ring, a popular mobile app for doorbells and security cameras, is now one of the communication tools employed by the city of Sarasota for community outreach and notifications.
A social networking platform allowing users to connect with their community, Neighbors is a free standalone app available to anyone, whether or not they are a Ring customer.
Through its verified Neighbors account, the city will share important community notices, including critical information during hurricane season.
“The Neighbors app is an additional outreach tool,” said Communications General Manager Jan Thornburg in a news release. “We worked directly with Ring to ensure we would have a verified account in place and ready to launch before hurricane season. We’ll be able to cast a wider net to connect with more residents, which will be particularly beneficial during an emergency.”
The verified Neighbors account was launched in conjunction with Hurricane Preparedness Week observed May 4-10. The Neighbors app may be downloaded through the Apple store or Google Play. It also is available within the Ring app.
Neighbors by Ring joins other city-utilized social media platforms for news and alerts such as Facebook, Instagram, X and Nextdoor.
