7:25 p.m., South Lido Beach
Fight: Upon arrival at the beachfront park, two officers located multiple subjects dispersing from the area covered with sand and with minor abrasions. Two who were detained while awaiting backup advised they had arrived on personal watercraft when they were “jumped by multiple people,” according to the incident report.
Officers who spoke with the other suspects told a different version of the story, explaining the two jet ski jockeys accosted them over prior issues they have had with each other. The scuffle was determined to be mutual combat, and no parties wished to pursue prosecution. Once released, all the individuals left the area without further incident.
11:48 p.m., intersection of Loma Linda Street and Pomelo Avenue
Suspicious incident: A caller reported a vehicle had been suspiciously parked in the middle of the street for approximately 10 minutes. Upon arrival, an officer observed a male standing alongside his vehicle, who stated he was driving home from a downtown establishment with his girlfriend in the passenger seat when they engaged in a verbal argument, during which she was prompted to exit the vehicle.
He stated his girlfriend had been out all day and went to the bar with her friend, who had consumed too many adult beverages to drive her home. Being a responsible boyfriend, he had driven to downtown to pick her up and, while there, encountered a male subject with whom he had conflicts in the past.
As the couple were traveling home, they engaged in an argument over her associating with his nemeses at the bar. That led to the age-old threat of her jumping out of a moving vehicle as she continually opened the door as he drove. That escalated to her throwing his belongings out of the car window, to which he responded by doing the same. The nature of those objects was not included in the incident report.
Eventually he stopped; the woman exited the vehicle and left the area on foot. The man explained he remained in the area to attempt to find his belongings and to give her an opportunity to return.
While the officer was on the scene, the woman did return, she said, to retrieve her phone. Interviewed by the officer, she confirmed her boyfriend’s account of the evening’s events. The officer observed both to be intoxicated and suggested they find alternative transportation. They both later left in an Uber and the vehicle was left on the side of the street to be retrieved the next day.
10:42 p.m., 1500 block of Main Street
Dispute: Staff at a downtown bar called law enforcement in reference to a battery. An officer spoke with security personnel regarding a patron who was punched in the face by another, who was no longer present, during a “disagreement over a female.”
The nature of the disagreement was not specified.
The victim described his assailant as a Middle Eastern male he knows only as “Jersey.” He presented with no visible injuries and said he does not wish to press charges. No further action was taken.
7:12 a.m., 200 block of Golden Gate Point
Disturbance: Having grown frustrated over the ceaseless construction, parking and other issues caused by contractors’ personnel in the condensed enclave of Golden Gate Point, a complainant was informed the matter was civil rather than legal in nature.
The complainant was told the issue was a matter to be settled between the contractors and the city since they have permits regarding the work, and with the homeowners association. The complainant agreed with that assessment, but said after multiple complaints the issues had not been resolved and decided to take the matter into his own hands.
Speaking with the construction foreman, an officer was advised he is doing all he can to keep open parking for residents and guests, but he also needs to use some parking area for loading and unloading construction equipment and materials. He added the HOA and the city have been on site to discuss the construction progress and issues and is in compliance with standards.
The foreman added the complainant is becoming more of an issue every day by approaching his workers, “getting in their faces,” and cussing them out. He was advised the call would be documented and suggested he contact law enforcement should there be further altercations with the complainant.
