A teacher at Carlos Haile Middle School in Lakewood Ranch turned herself in to Manatee County deputies Monday night on a charge of lewd contact with a student by an authority figure.
Oliver Fell, 28, surrendered hours after an arrest warrant on the second-degree felony had been issued. She was booked into the Manatee County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that a 14-year-old male student at the school in early March reported that the 28-year-old teacher had been communicating with him via Snapchat since December 2024 and had transmitted an explicit photo in January.
With a search warrant in hand, investigators examined the student’s phone and social media accounts and gathered evidence, the Sheriff’s Office said, adding additional evidence was gathered in May. Oliver was also charged with transmission of harmful material to a minor, a third-degree felony.
Manatee County School Board members in April accepted the resignation of a fifth grade teacher at B.D. Gullett Elementary who is under investigation for inappropriate contact with at least one student.
