The town of Longboat Key is inviting couples to say “I do” again.

The town will hold a free vow renewal event at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Karon Family Pavilion in the Town Center Green to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

After organizing the event successfully for Sarasota County, Support Services Director Carolyn Brown wanted to provide the opportunity for couples on Longboat to celebrate their marriages as well.

The ceremony will be officiated by Senior Federal Judge Jay Plager. Plager is a fellow Longboater who now serves on the town’s advisory boards.

”We have four couples right now,” said Brown. “There's one couple that's been married 50 years. Another one is 43 years, another one 40 years. One couple has only been married for six weeks, which is so special. It'll be great to have more folks involved and set us up to have this be an annual event.”

The town asks couples to come before 4:30 p.m. to check in and receive their vow renewal certificate and flowers.

As couples come in, music will be playing and refreshments will be available for mingling. There will also be photo opportunities.

The ceremony will start promptly at 4:30 p.m. with Plager welcoming everyone with a speech about the importance of the ceremony. Then, couples will recite their vows.

“It's about being with your special person on Valentine's Day and renewing your vows,” said Brown. “Vows are some of the most special moments in a couple’s life. So, it's a perfect way to spend Valentine's Day and share that special moment again with your loved one.”

Couples need to register by Feb. 9. Call 316-1999 to register.
