Two acclaimed Hermitage Fellows – visual artist Delita Martin and author Imani Perry – share a common goal: redefining the role and representation of Black women. Martin’s works, which use collaging, drawing, painting, printmaking and sewing techniques, have been shown nationally and internationally. Perry is the author of seven books, including “South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon Line to Understand the Soul of a Nation” and is a professor of African American Studies at Princeton University.

Six talented Suncoast Music Scholarship 2023 winners will perform a free concert to celebrate earning a music scholarship. The young musicians come from six area high schools and will be featured in voice, piano, violin, cello, flute and French horn performances.

For over a decade the Pride: Be Fabulous Festival has been known as the Harvey Milk Festival. It recently changed its name to provide greater support for the LGBTQ+ community. As in previous years, the 13th edition of the fest includes arts and music.

The 13th edition of the music and arts festival, which supports the LGBTQ+ community, features performances from MeteorEYES, DJ DaliGanja, The Tilt Orchestra and more, as well as keynote speakers Yoleidy Rosario-Hernandez, the former dean of diversity at New College who was quietly fired earlier this year, and Zander Moricz, a Pine View alum who went viral in 2022 for his class president graduation speech on his curly hair as a euphemism for being gay.

Sarasota Orchestra’s final concert of the season takes listeners on a whirlwind journey guided by guest conductor Joseph Young. Villa-Lobos traces connections between the German composer J.S. Bach and the music of Brazil in his “Bachianas Brasileiras.” Korean guitarist Bokyung Byun brings Joaquín Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” to life while Mendelssohn’s vacation to Italy spawned his joyful "Italian" Symphony.

Brothers Paul and Steven Laraia are both world-class violists. Paul is with the Grammy Award-winning Catalyst String Quartet while Steven is with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
