The weather was good, and the company was better at the Longboat Key Garden Club's annual Dinner and a Movie. Friends and neighbors gathered at Bayfront Park on March 11 for a gourmet dinner, live music and auction, movie under the stars and snacks to curb any craving.

Red tide delayed the event for one night, but winds shifted quickly. By Saturday evening, Mel Gibson was on an inflatable big screen overlooking Sarasota Bay. This year's movie was the 1994 comedy Western, "Maverick," also starring Jodie Foster and James Garner.

No movie night is complete without a concession stand full of candy.
