Manatee County seeks planning commissioner

Manatee County is accepting applications for a planning commissioner.

The Planning Commission is a citizen's advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on land-use items.

The seat will be available in October.

According to a county release, the Planning Commission has responsibilities such as carrying out duties as described in the Comprehensive Plan, regulating public hearings on Zoning Atlas Amendment, Developments of Regional Impact and Florida Quality Development, initiate, review and make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners in regard to adoption and amendment of the Land Development Code, hold and regulate public hearings on applications for amendments to the text of the Land Development Code, and perform any duties which might be lawfully assigned to it.

The term is four years and the Planning Commission has seven members. The county release said those with experience in the planning, engineering, environmental science, and development industries will be considered, although no particular expertise is required.

Planning Commission members can't be employed by the county. The commission meets on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. at the Manatee County Administration Building.
