Key Niners celebrate season with closing luncheon

After playing golf since October, the nine-hole golf association is hanging up the clubs.

Golfers arrived at the Longboat Key Club's Harbourside Dining Room on April 19 expecting an indoor luncheon. However, when they walked into the empty dining room, they quickly discovered that event organizers for the Key Niners closing luncheon had moved everyone outdoors to take advantage of one last beautiful day.

The women's nine-hole golf association will hang up their golf shoes and cover up their clubs for the season after April 19. They took to the links one more time, and the quartet of Noreen Ackerman, Pam Crowe, Deborah Gardner and Lori Brochin took home the honors of winning the first gross.

About 50 golfers attended the luncheon, which for some was the last social event of the season. The clubs are put away and the members will put aside their friendly competition until October when they meet again. Attendees mingled and shared post-season travel plans with friends or made plans to get together for one more round before leaving. After lunch, the committee received gifts from their members.
